On 21 December 1994, Alcoa and Alumina Limited, formerly WMC Limited, finalised and executed the AWAC Agreements to establish and govern the operation of AWAC. The formation date of AWAC was 1 January 1995. The main AWAC Agreements are the "Formation Agreement" and the "Charter of the Strategic Council".
